mourn the passing of Professor Ion Cucui
Titu Maiorescu University in Bucharest expresses its deep sadness and regret at the passing of University Professor, Doctor Ion Cucui (5.05.1950 – 13.04.2023).
Professor Ion Cucui was a prominent figure in Romanian higher education, who, throughout a prodigious career, developed a complex activity in the fields of education, research, and institutional management. He was an exceptional lecturer, a doctor of economics, specialized in accounting and management, who dedicated a large part of his life to the university faculty. He was a doctoral advisor, in which capacity he guided young people in advanced research, under the sign of academic excellence. His research activity materialized in an extensive editorial work, which includes over 20 books as the sole author and an impressive number of books written in collaboration, studies, and specialized articles, communications at international congresses and conferences.
He was the rector of Valahia University of Târgoviște between 2002 and 2012, during which period, through vision, competence, professionalism, and high-performing management, he made a major contribution to the establishment and development of the University. In this interval, Valahia University developed substantially in terms of infrastructure and human resources: the new headquarters, the Aula, the Research Institute, and the University campus were built, and a valuable and competitive teaching and research body was formed. Under the mandates of Rector Ion Cucui, Valahia University affirmed itself as a quality university in the country.
Professor Ion Cucui has developed a rich activity in the field of projects: he was the director of over 20 scientific research projects, both national and international, with European funding. Within the framework of institutional development efforts, Valahia University, represented by Rector Ion Cucui, participated as a partner in a large-scale European project, „Modern Education and Quality for the Future.” This project focused on the computerization of the educational process and was initiated by Titu Maiorescu University, represented in the project by its director, Prof. Univ. Dr. Valentin-Corneliu Pau, the university's Vice President.
Professor Ion Cucui was a full member of the Academy of Scientists of Romania, Section of Economic, Legal, and Sociological Sciences, and president of the Târgoviște Branch of the AOSR. To these qualities are added others that attest to the professor's value and recognition: vice-president of CEDIMES (Center for Studies for International Development and Economic-Social Modifications of the Research Institute of Francophonie), France, and director of the CEDIMES Romania Branch, member of the Executive Bureau of AFECA (European Association for Accounting and Auditing Training), president of the Dâmbovița Territorial Center of ANEVAR (National Association of Valuers of Romania), member of AIELF (International Association of French-Speaking Economists), and AFSER (Association of Faculties of Economic Sciences in Romania).
Between Titu Maiorescu University of Bucharest and Valahia University of Târgoviște A complex collaborative relationship has been developing for over two decades in the fields of education, research, and projects. Former Rector Ion Cucui deserves special credit for this collaboration, thanks to his managerial openness and academic spirit, his concern for quality education, and his collegial attitude, which characterized him throughout his life. Moving forward, we aim to further develop the collaboration between the two universities on all levels, under the auspices of the academic values that define it.
Upon the departure from this world of Professor Ion Cucui, the maiorescian academic community expresses its regret and deep sadness. Titu Maiorescu University has lost a friend, an exceptional professor, an elite personality in higher education and science, a man of high caliber and human probity. Our university extends its condolences to Valahia University and the bereaved family!
