UTM marked World Resuscitation Day at Băneasa Shopping City

Faculty of Medicine at Titu Maiorescu University from Bucharest yesterday marked  World Restart a Heart Day through free first aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) workshops. The event took place in Băneasa Shopping City and enjoyed the large presence of teachers, students, and visitors from the mall, located in the north of the capital. Participants had the opportunity to learn life-saving maneuvers, applying theory on state-of-the-art first aid mannequins under the careful guidance of teachers and medical students from Maiorești.

The event was opened by Mrs. University Professor Dr. Elena Rusu (Prorector UTM), who stated that the Faculty of Medicine places particular emphasis on first aid courses. Medical students learn from the first year of study how to recognize cardiopulmonary arrest and how to act correctly until the specialized emergency crew arrives. The Prorector thanked the teaching staff, students, and volunteers from within Asociației Universitare pentru Medicină și Asistență Medicală (AUMAM – UTM) for the commitment shown in organizing this public interest initiative.

Along with the maiorescian academic collective was Mr. Conf. Univ. Dr. Cosmin Moldovan, The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. The Dean mentioned in his speech that it is very important to prepare as well as possible to face emergency situations and to understand that resuscitation maneuvers are not reserved only for medical personnel and that any trained person can intervene in a critical situation if they know how to apply the standard Basic Life Support protocol.

Within the workshops coordinated by Prof. Univ. Dr. Razvan Adam (project initiator), also participated Professor University Doctor Dan Mănăstireanu (Professor in the First Aid Measures department and Disaster Medicine specialist) and Dr. Daniel Radu (Head of the Emergency Medicine Department - Ilfov County Emergency Hospital).

Participants had the opportunity to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (adult and child) protocols and airway obstruction techniques (Heimlich Maneuver). Associate Professor Dr. Razan Adam, initiator of this action, stated at the event that World Resuscitation Day reminds us that in a constantly changing world, first aid knowledge and CPR skills remain essential for saving lives. Everyone can play an important role in this mission to make the world a safer place.
