„Francophonie of Lights and Romanian Resonances” This is the title of the first issue of 2020 of the magazine „Laudatio” from Titu Maiorescu University, an associate member of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie. This bilingual issue (Romanian-French) is dedicated to the International Year of La Francophonie, an institution that has been advocating and acting for 50 years in favor of cultural and linguistic diversity, peace and solidarity, democracy and human rights, and economy and sustainable development.
Integrated into the international Francophone movement thirty years ago, Romania has today become one of the pillars of Francophonie in the Central and Eastern European region. Made possible through the contribution of prominent figures from academia, the Francophone diplomatic corps, Francophone institutions, civil society, etc., this issue of the magazine offers readers (whether French speakers or not) some benchmarks regarding the richness, variety, and dynamism of Francophone actions carried out in Romania, as well as in the region. It familiarizes them with the identity and convergence of the interventions of various Francophone actors and raises their awareness of the importance of the French language and Francophonie.
These contributions present contemporary Romanian Francophonie from various perspectives, a Francophonie with a rich past and also a promising future, highlighting the role of Francophonie in the social, cultural, and economic life of our country and, in particular, its role in the academic dynamics and the internationalization process of Romanian higher education.
Emerging at a turning point in global economic and social life, generated by the COVID-2019 pandemic, this publication urges a deeper reflection on past paradigms, on life and societal models, and presents Francophonie as a „chance for diversity” in terms of language, culture, and also lifestyles and societies.
