Romania's National Day, an occasion for joy and reflection on the meaning of history
On the occasion of December 1st, Titu Maiorescu University wishes Romania and the entire Romanian nation Happy birthday!
Romania's National Day celebrates the apotheotic moment in Romanian history and becoming: the Great Union and the creation of Greater Romania. The union of Romanian territories and all Romanians into a single country was a centuries-old dream of a people separated by history, passed down from one generation to another, which became a true "National Project" in the era of Modern Romania. Intellectual elites and all social classes participated in its realization through vision, political struggle, affirmation of Romanian rights, aspirations, and dignity, participation in wars, and bloodshed. Endless lines of heroes and martyrs gave their lives for the Country in the War of Independence and World War I, making possible the fulfillment of the multi-secular dream of Union, an act realized on December 1, 1918.
We are living National Day with natural joy in the face of an epochal achievement, which brought all Romanians into the same country, victorious and reunited through the adversities of history, into a community of language, identity values, and national aspirations. The joy of celebration is accompanied by the honoring of those who forged it, guided by the historical ideal of love of country and spirit of sacrifice. At the same time, National Day must be an opportunity for reflection on the meaning of history and on the moral duty we ourselves have towards our ancestors. It is an act of conscience, of acceptance, and of responsibility towards the present and the future, which aims to continue their work, the process of building Romania as a European, strong, and prosperous country.
Dedicated to its mission of training and educating, Titu Maiorescu University in Bucharest assumes with full consciousness and responsibility the role of promoting truth and lessons of history to its students, the fundamental values of Romanian identity and civilization, the meaning of the country's evolution and development, within a continuous process that comes from far in history and goes far into the future.
