ALGORITHMS PLAYING. GAME MECHANICS LIVE

Guest
Oana Rinaldi, Machine Learning Engineer,

PhD in Automation and Computers
(Graduate of the Faculty of Computer Science, UTM)

Data March 28, 2026, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Location: Titu Maiorescu University, Building M, Room M113

Details:
This seminar aims to provide participants with an applied and accessible introduction to the universe of game mechanics, viewed not just as elements of entertainment, but as formal systems of rules, decisions, and interactions. Starting from the idea that games can function as interactive algorithmic models, the event will explore how different types of mechanics influence the player's experience, the game's internal balance, and its appeal.

During the seminar, examples and prototypes inspired by several fundamental game categories will be presented, each chosen to highlight a specific dominant mechanic: reflex, timing, physics, rules and systems, tactical decision, or balance. Participants will be able to observe how, beyond the visual component, games are built on clear algorithmic structures that define behaviors, constraints, and action possibilities.

The seminar is addressed to students and all those interested in computer science, game design, artificial intelligence, and interactive systems, offering an interdisciplinary perspective on digital games as a meeting space between programming, formal analysis, and creativity.

About the speaker:
Oana Rinaldi graduated from Titu Maiorescu University with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a Master's degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. She is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Automatic Control and Computers at Politehnica University of Bucharest, with a research focus on Exploring the Fourth Dimension. 4D Spatial Mechanics in Game Design.

Professionally, he works as a Machine Learning Engineer, with an interest in intelligent systems and how rules, space, decisions, and computational models can be transformed into relevant interactive experiences. His research interest lies at the intersection of algorithms, game design, and the representation of complex spatial structures in interactive environments.
