The doctorate is a higher cycle of university studies aimed at developing knowledge through original scientific research.
„TITU MAIORESCU” University of Bucharest is an Organizing Institution of Doctoral Studies (I.O.S.U.D.), according to the Order of the Minister of Education and Research no. 4632/07.09.2004.
The Faculty of Medicine organizes and conducts a scientific doctorate and doctoral students can obtain the title of Doctor of Medical Sciences in the field of Medicine.
Scientific doctorate is based on creation and advanced scientific research, contributing to the development of cognitive knowledge, competences and skills. The general and specialized knowledge, competences and skills give the scientific doctoral graduate the ability:
- have a systematic and comprehensive understanding of the field of study and use the research methods associated with it;
- to design and implement a research project and to manage research in a professionally ethical manner;
- to contribute to the advancement of knowledge through original research with national or international impact, demonstrated through scientific publications;
- critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas;
- communicating with the professional community and civil society in the context of its field of research;
- to help promote technological, social and cultural development in the context of a knowledge-based society and economy.
The mission of the Medicine doctoral program is to train highly qualified researchers and specialists, capable of generating original, relevant and applicable scientific knowledge in the field of basic, clinical and translational medical sciences. The doctoral program aims to strengthen an academic culture based on excellence, methodological rigor, scientific integrity and social responsibility.
The domain's strategic objectives include:
- developing advanced independent scientific research skills;
- training in critical analysis and interdisciplinary data integration;
- stimulating innovation in diagnosis, therapy and prevention;
- promoting ethics and integrity in research;
- integrating PhD students into national and international research networks;
- increasing the international visibility of scientific results.
The doctoral program contributes directly to the development of highly qualified human capital needed by the medical, university and research system in Romania and in the European area of education and research.
