As the Rector of the University, I wish the entire Titu Maiorescu academic community, faculty, and students, a year full of achievements, a year in which we will overcome the challenges generated by the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic. Under these conditions of public health risk, we must ensure that the university educational process suffers as little as possible, and through our collective effort, we will maintain a high standard of quality, performance, and educational excellence, a standard constantly promoted by Titu Maiorescu University in Romanian higher education.<\/p>\n

Titu Maiorescu University was initiated in 1990 by a respectable group of founders with a vision for academic development in post-revolutionary Romania. Thirty years after its establishment, Titu Maiorescu University <\/strong>as one of the prestigious Romanian higher education institutions, it promotes excellence in education, rigor in research and innovation, and has developed study programs in 13 scientific fields.<\/p>\n

Titu Maiorescu University <\/strong>it is a member of the European University Association (EUA), the most important organization of higher education institutions in Europe, a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), and a member of the European Association of Erasmus Coordinators (EAEC).<\/p>\n

The educational and academic performance of the University is revealed and confirmed by the rating High confidence level<\/strong> accredited by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS) successively in 2012 and 2016, a qualification it currently holds.<\/p>\n

The university has 10 faculties within its structure, managing 24 bachelor's degree programs, 20 master's degree programs, 2 postgraduate programs, and 3 psychopedagogical training programs for graduates interested in the teaching profession. Through its 3 doctoral schools (dental medicine, law, and medicine) Titu Maiorescu University <\/strong>It ranks among the first private universities in Romania to hold and develop doctoral study programs.<\/p>\n

Multidisciplinary specificity Titu Maiorescu University <\/strong>It is given by the 5 study programs in the health field, namely the Bachelor's degrees in Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Pharmacy, to which are added in the broader health field, the study programs in the Bachelor's degree of Psychology. The University's fields of study in Law, Informatics, Economic Sciences, International Relations, Communication Sciences, and Educational Sciences, alongside those in the health field, meet the socio-economic needs and the dynamics of the labor market.<\/p>\n

All of the University's study programs are registered in the National Register of Higher Education Qualifications and correspond to the Romanian Code of Occupations and the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED). Thus, graduates of Titu Maiorescu University obtain diplomas recognized in the European Union and internationally.<\/p>\n

Another peculiarity that ensured development Titu Maiorescu University <\/strong>This is because its 8 study programs provide the qualification basis for a significant number of liberal professions: financial auditor, tax consultant, certified accountant, chartered accountant, pharmacist, doctor, dentist, general nurse, public notary, lawyer, psychologist, and many others.<\/p>\n

I must continue with a recent performance of Titu Maiorescu University that contributes to the recognition of its value and mention that from the academic year 2019-2020, the University has been coordinating postgraduate residency programs for graduates of faculties of medicine and dental medicine, with approximately 400 residents enrolled in these university programs.<\/p>\n

At the same time, in the Health field of study, Titu Maiorescu University has collaboration contracts for conducting university medical-pharmaceutical and postgraduate education activities with 23 hospitals, of which 7 are private and 16 are state-owned. As a contribution of our University, please allow me to mention that within 11 hospitals, the status of \u201dclinic\u201d has been acquired for 32 departments, of which, for the first time in our country, 10 departments are within private hospitals.<\/p>\n

The University's management strategy, continuously developed but with particular emphasis over the last 15 years, has facilitated the growth of the university's assets in terms of facilities and educational spaces. This provides a solid material base for the educational process today and includes amphitheaters, dozens of seminar rooms, nearly 50 laboratories, arguably the largest Auditorium of any university in Romania, student accommodation buildings, a canteen-restaurant, a cafe-bar, a media room, and an administrative block. Other similar facilities, some under construction or renovation, culminate in the project to open a hospital for Titu Maiorescu University.<\/p>\n

Another constant concern for the University management is attracting external funds. To date, the University has attracted approximately \u20ac20,000,000 from European funds through competitively won projects, projects aimed at human resources development, administrative capacity, or research and innovation.<\/p>\n

Dear students, esteemed colleagues, judging by academic and administrative performance criteria, Titu Maiorescu University ranks among the top universities whose development dynamics and positioning within the Romanian and European university environment, be it state or private, have increased in visibility and attractiveness, currently leading to a year-on-year rise in demand for its study programs.<\/p>\n

This year alone, the number of students and trainees admitted to Titu Maiorescu University is approximately 1,000 higher than last year. In the 2020-2021 academic year, over 500 international students from all continents are part of the Titu Maiorescu academic community, studying various undergraduate programs \u2013 some in Romanian and others in English-language programs at the faculties of medicine and dentistry.<\/p>\n

Although Titu Maiorescu University is continuously developing, it cannot fully satisfy the high demand for its study programs, with thousands of candidates unable to be admitted to the university even though their high school, baccalaureate, or entrance exam performance was among the highest grades obtained.<\/p>\n

This situation is a challenge for the University and equally for the leadership of each faculty, a challenge that must lead to a new development strategy for the faculties, for the study programs offered in both Romanian and an international language.<\/p>\n

In this context, the internal management policy must rapidly prepare the University for competition with other universities in the country and in Eastern Europe within the European Union in attracting international students. The membership of Titu Maiorescu University in the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) must be a resource in this regard.<\/p>\n

The 2020-2021 academic year must be a year of restructuring the institutional paradigm of Titu Maiorescu University, a year that consolidates ethical, professional, and educational values. The University must become much more agile in terms of decision-making capacity, more efficient in terms of execution capacity, and more performant in terms of the quality of administrative services offered to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students.<\/p>\n

The knowledge provided to them must be relevant to their professional training and to the future society in which they will perform professionally. Each study program must ensure the development of professional competencies so that the competitiveness of Titu Maiorescu University graduates is ensured in the labor market after graduation. Each faculty will ensure that it increases its resources, means, and teaching and educational tools necessary for the development of specific competencies for the study program it manages each year.<\/p>\n

As I mentioned at the beginning, Titu Maiorescu University<\/strong> Through its academic community, comprised of over 500 employees, faculty, and administrative staff, and over 9,000 students and trainees, it is called upon, and able, not only in this academic year, to meet the challenge of continuing university education at standards of quality, performance, and excellence under the public health risks presented by the pandemic generated by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The 2020-2021 academic year will be a year that tests our institutional capacity for adaptation and for ensuring effective educational delivery under modified conditions of academic and professional manifestation far more than the preceding academic year.<\/p>\n

Skills development<\/strong> traditionally carried out through seminar, laboratory, and internship activities must be ensured and<\/strong> through distance IT means. The formation of these skills must not eliminate our concern for the formation of young students' personalities. The education of humanistic values, public health education, education of moral values and integrity, education of fundamental rights and freedoms, financial education, political education for democracy, entrepreneurial education, education for a culture of performance and excellence, etc., ensures the University's transcendence over time and its immanence in various fields, through the skill and professional success of its graduates.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that the entire Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Ia\u0219i academic community is invited and must<\/strong> to participate in the future edification of the University through an appropriate response given in favor of its development policies.<\/p>\n
