Titu Maiorescu University<\/span><\/span>\u00a0celebrate the day of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>January 24, 1859, the Day of the Union of Moldavia with Wallachia<\/span><\/span>, prin\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Homage to those who carried out this historically significant project\u00a0<\/span><\/span>capital<\/span><\/span>\u00a0And, at the same time, through<\/span><\/span>an act of reflection on the event's meanings for the past, present, and future.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

167 years ago, a major project of national history was realized:\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The Union of the two Principalities<\/span><\/span>, through the double election of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, in Ia\u0219i and Bucharest. It was\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a historic project, a National Project,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in today's terms, initiated and accomplished by\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the Romanian political and cultural elites, with the support of the Romanian people.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Cuza's reign\u00a0<\/span><\/span>an era of construction<\/span><\/span>, through the major reforms initiated and carried out by the ruler,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a period of building modern Romania<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>aligning the country with European civilization.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Cuza's Union represented\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a fundamental moment\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in the process of modernizing and developing the country<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>which culminated in the Great Union and the creation of Greater Romania.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0E<\/span><\/span>Romanian literature<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in both states<\/span><\/span>\u00a0they had\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a contribution<\/span><\/span>\u00a0essential<\/span><\/span>\u00a0in Unirea\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Principalities\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and in subsequent processes<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Print\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Initiation and implementation of this Country Project.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

Titu Maiorescu played an important role in the founding generation.<\/span><\/span>, a complex personality of his era and of our entire history,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>University professor,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Rector of the University of Ia\u0219i, at only 23 years old, philosopher, jurist, and writer, politician, minister, prime minister, party leader, founder of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201e<\/span><\/span>Junimii<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and magazine\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201e<\/span><\/span>Literary Conversations<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>, literary critic, writer, and cultural mentor.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Through his entire cultural and political work, Titu Maiorescu, the spiritual patron of the University that bears his name, is considered the \u201efounder of modern Romanian culture and civilization.\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

On the occasion of the day\u00a0<\/span><\/span>January 24th<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Titu Maiorescu University expresses its gratitude to the founders of Modern Romania and to the Romanian people who supported the Grand Project of the Union.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

At the same time, Cuza's Union offers the academic community greater\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a frame of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>deep reflection on the lesson that this exemplary page of history offers to the present.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Several elements stand out\u00a0<\/span><\/span>essential<\/span><\/span>:\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the role of elites in history and the edification process, the need for vision, consciousness, responsibility, patriotism\u00a0<\/span><\/span>from the political class\u00a0<\/span><\/span>before the nation, the importance\u00a0<\/span><\/span>achievement<\/span><\/span>\u00a0a National Project, of cross-party solidarity around it, the necessity of creating a broad national synergy in the direction of the national interest.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

History offers us\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a lesson<\/span><\/span>\u00a0from which we, today, must learn.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Today's Romania must learn from yesterday's Romania for tomorrow's Romania.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Events, projects,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0achievements,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the personalities of history offer us\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Markers and patterns\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in the process of building Romania, a continuous, highly complex process, in a difficult era of contemporary history.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>This process demands competence, vision, conscience, ethical values, responsibility, accountability, awareness of national identity, and, last but not least, patriotism.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0This is the spirit in which Titu Maiorescu University educates its students, shaping the new generations intellectually, morally, and spiritually.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The Union of January 24, 1859, followed by the political and administrative work of building and modernizing the Principalities in a European spirit, carried out by\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Principle<\/span><\/span>the<\/span><\/span>Luminat<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Alexandru Ioan Cuza<\/span><\/span>, the further process of Romania's development and evolution offers us\u00a0<\/span><\/span>A master class from which we must learn. The lesson of history is fundamental in continuing the process of building Romania today and tomorrow, a member state of the European Union and NATO, a country with important natural and human resources, with great development potential. Education has a primary role in this process.<\/span><\/span><\/p>
